Thank you for selecting The Good Dog for your dog's needs. Your pet is extremely important to us, we would like to ensure you that every effort made to make your pet's grooming experience is as pleasant and safe as possible. Below are some policies and important information we would like to make you aware of.

Health and/or Medical Problems:

Grooming procedures can sometimes be stressful, especially for senior dogs and/or dogs with heath issues. Because of this, grooming can expose hidden medical problems or aggravate a current one. This issue can be made known during grooming or even days after grooming. Senior dogs and dogs with health issues have a greater risk of injury. These dogs will be groomed for cleanliness and comfort as The Good Dog WILL NOT compromise any dog's health and/or well-being to achieve "the perfect groom". The dog owner will advise The Good Dog of any medical, physical, emotional issues, allergies, sensitivities, or pre-existing conditions. These conditions may include but are not limited to; prior surgeries, hip and/or joint issues, warts, moles, ear infections, or skin problems. The owner must also inform The Good Dog of new conditions as they arise.

Matted Dogs:

Pets with matted coats will require additional attention. If the matting is minimal and the pet responds well, they may be brushed out. If we do not believe we can remove the mats in a timely manner or feel your pet is in pain, we will not continue but instead will clip short/shave. We firmly believe grooming should be an enjoyable experience and will not put your pet through the discomfort of unnecessary de-matting. Permission will be requested before shaving your dog. If permission is denied, your pet will not get a bath or haircut. There is a greater risk of nicking, scratching, cuts, etc; on a matted dog during the grooming process, In addition, the skin may appear red, itchy, and irritated due to the lack of oxygen under the mats. We will be happy to demonstrate proper and effective brushing techniques to prevent matting in the future. Regular brushing at home, as well as keeping your pet on a 4-6 weeks grooming schedule will help prevent matting.

Use of Muzzle:

We DO NOT muzzle unless your pet gives us a reason to. Muzzling does not harm your pet and protects both the pet and the groomer. In some cases, muzzling may even calm a stressed animal, allowing the grooming process to continue. If your pet still acts in a way that is dangerous, The Good Dog has the right to stop grooming services at any time and a service fee will be collected.

Dangerous/Agressive or Behavioral Issues:

The owner MUST inform The Good Dog if your pet bites, has bitten, is aggressive, unpredictable, and/or has any behavioral issues. We will make every attempt to groom uncooperative pets, but we may not be able to complete grooming pets that pose a threat to themselves or our staff. If a dog is felt to be exhibiting behavior that is unsafe in regard to itself or our staff, it may be in the best interest of the pet that the groom be stopped. A fee will be charged depending on the work completed up to that point. The Good Dog has the right to refuse grooming services, stop grooming services, or cancel grooming services at any time before, during, or after grooming. We will NEVER sedate your animal.

If your dog does get anxious around other dogs, we will gladly work with you to schedule an appointment to best accommodate your dogs needs.
